Reformulation letters in cognitive analytic therapy: The practitioner's experience

Objectives The aim of this study was to explore (1) cognitive analytic therapy (CAT) practitioners' experiences receiving their own reformulation letter as part training and (2) CAT perceptions about how altered clinical practice. Design Semistructured interviews were used elicit participants' (N = 9) having received personal CAT, with a particular focus on the letter, its impact them clinicians Methods Inductive “bottom up” thematic analysis analyse interview transcripts extract overarching themes subthemes across all participants. Results Four emerged from data: power letter; inhabiting client's role; absorbing thinking practitioner; evolving therapist's technique. Conclusions Cognitive practitioners report that indicate positive self-awareness, learning consciousness clients experience therapy.
